An Airborne Traffic Situation Display System
نویسندگان
چکیده
An airborne traffic situation display system which could be used as an adjunct to the evolving National Airspace System/Automatic Radar Control Terminal System (NAS/ARTS) is described. In the proposed system, a contemporary realization of an old concept, the NAS/ARTS data are broadcast. A small digital computer in an aircraft then selects from the message stream the data on its own aircraft, nearby aircraft, and a local map. These data, plus aircraft heading data from a directional gyro, are used to generate a situation display that can be aircraftcentered and heading-oriented. Accepted for the Air Force Joseph R. Development of a Flight Collision Avoidance System for a Free Flight Environment: An Ecological Interface Design Approach
In a Free Flight Environment, safe –separations are delegated to the pilot by the Air Traffic Control. An adoption of a Free Flight Environment is considered vital as air traffic is predicted to double over the next two decades. Transitioning from the current Controlled Airspace to Free Flight Environment involves number of changes. A pilot role is to change to airspace and decision manager. Pi...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Horizontal Collision Avoidance Display to Support Pilots’ Self-Separation in a Free Flight Environment
In a Free Flight Environment, managing separation between aircraft is delegated to the pilot by Air Traffic Management. The future adoption of a Free Flight Environment is necessary, as Air Traffic Controllers will be unable to handle the workload from the forecasted doubling of air traffic within two decades. The responsibility of pilots will expand to include a new set of cognitive demands as...

A system concept for a cockpit traffic situation display (TSD) was developed and a preliminary evaluation was undertaken to investigate the effect of a TSD on safety, efficiency, and capacity in the 3rd generation NAS/ARTS ATC system environment. The optimum display configuration, examples of procedural changes, benefits to the pilot and benefits to ATC are discussed. The test program was condu...
